For Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, Mascari Warner Dinh Architects provided architectural services for a 20,000 SF Central Energy Plant serving the existing 650,000 SF Mercy San Diego Hospital and including 3 chillers, 2 boilers and an emergency generator. The new Central Energy Plant was designed to support the existing hospital and a future replacement hospital.
The expansion included an upgrade of the existing chilled and condenser water system, steam and condensate return system, and the heating hot water system. All existing central mechanical HVAC equipment were demolished and replaced. Points of connections were strategically located in the existing mechanical rooms to connect the new mains from the Central Energy Plant to existing distribution piping.
